Meet our newest foster puppy (no, Molly hasn’t found a home yet, We’re +2 foster dogs) He’s cold and scared in the video but has been warming up (both figuratively and literally) to our house for the last week or so.
We’re accepting name ideas so if you have one leave a comment! He’s very nice and loves to play with Annie … I’ll try to get a video of that soon.

meet our latest foster dog, Molly…
We rescued her from a county pound in Indiana… a poor, overwhelmed rural shelter with too many animals and not enough people to help. Our dog, Grace, came from this shelter (she was a “foster” at first, but somehow managed to upgrade her status to “permanent resident”
Molly is an incredibly sweet and gentle girl. She’s a lab/pointer mix, about 4 years old, and has most likely had puppies in her past – but is now spayed. She has a very shy, quiet demeanor and has charmed everyone she’s met. She’s great with other dogs and cats, and will make a loyal, loving companion for some lucky person someday. For now, we’ll welcome her here at the farm and give her all the love and care she needs until her new family comes along.
(don’t tell Emmy that we let Molly nap on HER sofa!)

Amy and I both volunteer at Save the Animals Foundation (staf), an animal shelter in Cincinnati. Since I moved down to Kentucky and Amy took a new job it’s been difficult for us to spend as much time as we used to helping out there. We’ve been looking for other ways to contribute and doing some videos for the dogs seemed like something great we could do that would fit into our current situations. We just finished one for Logan, a black lab mix. Some people say there is a Black Dog Syndrome where black dogs are overlooked at animals shelters at a higher rate than lighter color dogs; let’s hope this helps the odds for Logan.
Here’s the first video and Logan’s petfinders page.
It’s been a whole year since Logan came to our shelter. I want to share with you all the things that we have learned about him this past year …
Logan (est. birthdate 1/06) came to us a skinny, covered with (non-contagious) mange, full of worms, stray dog who had been on the streets for however long. Now he’s gained 15 pounds and has THE glossiest coat in the shelter. His personality has not changed–he’s loving, trusting and forever happy. Always up for a pet. Always ready for a treat. Always ready to play. Always ready to bring smiles to the volunteers who stop by his run for a quick hello.
Logan is the sensitive type. He’s a dog that is going to need reassuring and a lending hand as he grows used to his life in a home … The pots are banging–oh, my! My human is yelling at the TV because the Bengal’s just fumbled–oh, my! All of a sudden there are 15 people in my house talking over each other and I’ve not met any of them–oh, my! My human is now at my level reassuring me with soft words … much better!
Logan has it in him to be a very confident dog. He’s just going to need some help getting there. In the beginning you’ll need to hold Logan’s paw as you help lead him through life. That includes not getting frustrated when he wants to go right and you want to go left. It will be up to both you and Logan to find the right road that leads down the middle.
Logan is a black lab/Shar Pei mix. Those two breeds couldn’t be farther from each other in regards to the activity level needed to keep them happy. Logan tends to be in the middle, especially for a boy who currently is only a year and a half old. He’s always up for a romp, but is also content to snuggle. He’s up for training classes, but then just as happy to get in the car and sleep on the way home. We’ve taught him the basics–sit and down. He’d be more than happy to work with you as you teach him other things.
I’m biased, I admit it. I love the boy to death! But I’m not the only one. There are dozens of volunteers just like me who have come to adore Logan. We all believe in our hearts that his home is out there. Are you it?
If Logan sounds like your kind of guy, please see our homepage for visiting hours and adoption details.
